About Registration
The Advantages of Registration
Let's begin with why you should register. Basically, when you register, you will be able to access some content that you could not otherwise, and you'll also be able to contribute to the site and help a community grow up around it. That is to say, registered members are presently able to:
- rate all articles,
- add comments to all articles,
- post Trivia, and
- post News.
As the site develops further (pretty soon), members will also be able to:
- use the Forum on the site,
- post Links,
- post Recipes, and
- access Downloads.
In the distant future the following features may also be introduced, possibly with a premium membership option:
- browse the site without ads, and
- access high-resolution photos.
The Process of Registration
How you register is basically straightforward. But if you have little experience browsing the web and registering at community sites, do read this bit.
Registration Form
You will be asked to fill out a form with a couple of compulsory fields and a bunch of optional ones. All your personal data will be handled confidentially; for details see Privacy Policy.
Of the compulsory fields, your Login Name is what you'll type in the Login box when you come back to the site. This had better not contain any special characters such as spaces, punctuation or international glyphs. Numbers and capitals are fine. Once registered, you cannot change your Login Name, and of course no two members can have the same Login Name.
Your Display Name is what other users will see on the site next to your comments, forum posts, submitted articles and in the "Who is here" bubble. This may contain any characters you wish, but for the sake of etiquette, please do not use very long display names that disrupt the page, nor imitate another user's display name.
For Email Address you should provide a valid and working email. This is essential, because in the next stage of registration you will be sent an activation code to this address, and you cannot complete registration without that code. The email you provide here will not be visible to other visitors on the site, but registered members may in the future be able to send you messages to that address via IndiCS.InfO.
Your Password should be something you can remember, but others cannot guess. You will be asked to type your password twice to make sure it is not mistyped. If you forget your password, you will be able to ask for a new one, but we cannot find and tell you your old password.
You must accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy of IndiCS.InfO by ticking the box next to this line.
In the optional fields under the heading User Details, you can provide additional info about yourself. Most of these are straightforward. Whatever information you provide here will be visible to all visitors on the site. All these data can be edited later on.
You can select an Avatar picture that will be displayed in your forum posts. If you wish to use a custom avatar, you need to contact us and send us the picture you want to use; this will be accepted and made available on the site on the condition that this infringes no copyright and the picture itself fits the style of the website.
Your Signature will be displayed automatically at the end of your forum posts. You may use (limited) HTML in your signature if you know how to.
Use the Extra Info field to tell whatever you want known about yourself. If you want to make your email address public, write it here.
Once you've completed all the compulsory fields, you can click the New User button to submit your registration. You will then be asked to verify and confirm your details.
Account Validation
After registration you will need to validate or confirm your membership. You will receive an email to the address you had provided, and will need to follow the instructions in that letter. We are sorry for this inconvenience, but this is our way of making sure only humans register on the site and malicious programs don't.
Normally the validation message will arrive in your mailbox immediately. If it does not, allow 15 minutes for the web demons to deliver it. If it still hasn't come, the most likely reason is that it was caught by your spam filter because it comes from an address with which you have not corresponded before. Do check your spam box. Occasionally messages from our server are rejected by certain email providers. If you are sure you have not received the validation letter, you can try to register with a different email address (and a different login name). If all else fails, contact us in a letter to admin at indics dot info or through the Contact Form.
In the validation message you will be given a unique link to validate your account; or if you prefer to confirm registration the next time you visit the site, you'll find a validation code in the letter, which you'll need to type or paste after logging in with your user name and password.
Have Fun!
